We are going to analyze the character from novel “Laskar Pelangi” by Andrea Hirata. There are 6 karakter who dominating the story. So, we decided to analyzed it.
Synopsys
This novel tells the childhood lives of several children in Belitong. Andrea Hirata begins with a sad story about the world of education in Indonesia where a school with a shortage of students is about to be closed. The school is Muhammadiyah Elementary School in Hang Belitung Timur. However, because the number of students registered is even 10, the school with the improvised building is still allowed to carry out activities as usual. The ten students are the “Laskar Pelangi” or Rainbow Troops. The name their teacher gave them was Bu Mus, because of their love of rainbows.
1. Ikal
Ikal felt strange when he remembered with A Ling. For A Ling he will only be someone else and will only be a filler of data and addresses in the memory of his brain. He even felt unworthy to belong to A Ling. Ikal's honesty made him sad because he felt he didn't deserve to have the beautiful and charming A Ling. When compared to A Ling Ikal, it is nothing. A Ling was beautiful while she was just a commoner who had nothing.

2. Lintang
Lintang who is passionate and works hard for education by pedaling an onthel bicycle back and forth from home to school the distance she travels is about 80 km.

3. Flo
Flo is a tomboyish girl in one of the members of the Laskar Pelangi, Flo is the son of a rich person, Flo has an interest in curls and friends because of that she goes to a school that is far from urban areas, Flo is 12 years old, has short hair like a tomboyish child but has a very beautiful face.

Projection is a psychological defense mechanism proposed by Anna Freud in which an individual attributes unwanted thoughts, feelings and motives onto another person.
4. Aling
Aling is the daughter of a food shop owner of Chinese descent, has a beautiful and shy face, Aling is referred to as Ikal's monkey love and is also one of the characters in the story of the Laskar Pelangi.
Defense mechanism: Sublimation
Sublimation is similar to displacement, but takes place when we manage to displacement our unacceptable emotions into behaviors which are constructive and socially acceptable, rather than destructive activities.
5. Mahar
Mahar is the man who enjoys the occult is often cornered by his friends. When he grew up, Mahar was unemployed waiting for fate to greet him because he couldn't go anywhere because his mother was sickly. However, good fortune greeted him and he was invited by senior officials to make a documentation of traditional children's games after reading an article he wrote in a magazine, and finally he succeeded in launching a novel about friendship.

Displacement is the redirection of an impulse (usually aggression) onto a powerless substitute target. The target can be a person or an object that can serve as a symbolic substitute.
6. Harun
This mentally retarded man started elementary school when he was 15 years old. This witty man always tells about his cat with three stripes and gives birth to three kitten, each with three stripes on the third day to Sahara and loves to ask Mrs. Muslimah when the Eid holidays are. He deposited 3 bottles of soy sauce when asked to collect sixth grade artwork.
